Earth Day Coaster Crochet Pattern

Earth Day is coming up and it’s the perfect time to reflect and think about what we can do better to protect our planet. After all Earth is the only home we have.

Let’s celebrate with this fun Earth inspired coaster!

Coasters are a great way to add some personality to the home and they make great gifts.

I love the fact that they’re quick to make and while this one takes a little bit longer with all the colour changes, the end result is so worth it.

Earth Day Coaster Crochet Pattern

Materials

  • DK weight cotton yarn in background colour (bc), blue (b) and green (g) (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Sailor Blue, Grass Green and Pure Black)
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle, scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • st/s – stitch/es
  • (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round
  • […] – repeat the instructions in brackets

Finished Size

The finished heart measures approximately 4″ x 4″ (10cm x 10cm). Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Notes

  • The ch 1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.
  • You will be working in rows of single crochet from the bottom up.
  • The pattern is written as: # of single crochet stitches (colour abbreviation), example: 8 sc (b) means 8 sc in the colour blue.
  • I change colours the same way that I do for amigurumi: How to Change Colours in Amigurumi.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Back (background colour)

R1: Ch 25, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (24)

R2-24: Ch 1, turn. [Sc] x24 (24) 23 rows

Do not fasten off.

Assembly

Place front and back pieces right sides together with the front piece facing up, you will be working through both pieces. Ch 1, 2 sc in corner st. Sc evenly around all sides, placing 3 sc in the other three corners. When you are back to where you started sc into the same st as starting st.

Fasten off invisibly and weave in end.
